Blackburn with Darwen Community Network appoints new chair

The Blackburn with Darwen Community Network has selected Vicky Shepherd as its new chair following an interview and application process.

Local voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations and groups have joined forces to form the Blackburn with Darwen Community Network (BwD CN).

Working together with the NHS, the borough council, and other important partners, the network seeks to promote “positive change.”

The purpose of the BwD CN is to serve as the “network of networks,” uniting all parties to “empower and celebrate” the accomplishments of the VCFSE industry.

By involving residents and listening to ‘seldom-heard’ voices, the network aims to create a shared plan across organisations and networks in Blackburn with Darwen to ensure a better future for all.

Ms Shepherd has worked in the voluntary sector in Blackburn with Darwen for more than 25 years.

She is the chief executive of Age UK Blackburn with Darwen and a trustee of Care Network.

She also represents the VCFSE sector on several key boards, including the Health and Wellbeing Board and Place Partnership.

Ms Shepherd will work with the other 11 members of the Community Network board to develop and deliver a work plan that continues to raise the profile of the ‘vital and valuable’ work that voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise organisations do with local people.

She will also influence the policies, strategies, and delivery of public sector partners, including the local authority and NHS.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be named the inaugural chair of the Blackburn with Darwen Community Network,” Ms. Shepherd stated.

“This borough is fortunate to have such a thriving and active VCFSE sector that works with locals in all of our neighbourhoods.

“I firmly think that we can accomplish even more to promote the enhanced health, welfare, and standard of living for residents of Blackburn with Darwen by banding together and with our public sector colleagues.

“I look forward to working with my fellow board members, and the wider Community Network, to increase and make the most of the opportunities available and to find solutions to the challenges.”
