Arne Engels can’t believe what he has witnessed with Celtic in the Champions League at Parkhead
All signs point to Arne Engels starting for Celtic in their important Champions League match against Young Boys.
Celtic defeated Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, and Brendan Rodgers sent out his best potential starting eleven, with Engels playing for more than an hour.
That was a warm-up, build-up, and preparation for the major event that everyone has been looking forward to on Wednesday night.
Champions League action is back after a short hiatus, and Celtic is set to host Young Boys at Parkhead. If they want to advance to the playoff round, they know that their fate is in their own hands.
After the games in Europe on Tuesday were finished, the Bhoys were one point above the drop zone and are now going to play against a side that is in last place.
However, Engles is ready for anything and knows how much it means to the Celtic faithful.
What the Celtic players have been up to in the weeks leading up to the match against Young Boys
Celtic’s previous game in Europe was on December 10. Since then, the anticipation for this Young Boys encounter and its significance has been growing.
Usually, you hear from managers and players how they take one game at a time and they don’t look beyond the next match.
Engels added, “I am really buzzing to play that game,” while talking about the Young Boys battle. “Everybody in the team is already talking about it like for a few weeks, so hopefully, it will be an amazing game to play and can’t wait.
“I think we are doing really good in the Champions League. We received the points that we deserved.
We are very looking forward to the next game, playing it and competing on the highest platform, as we proved already a few times in the Champions League.”
Arne Engels astonished by Celtic Park atmosphere on Champions League evenings
Champions League evenings at Parkhead are off this scale and nothing in Europe can equal what Celtic supporters generate.
Engels experienced all of this for the first time this season and he said that the atmosphere has been ‘unbelievable’ to play in.
The Belgium international also claimed that he has ‘never’ heard or experienced anything like that before and he doesn’t need the incentive from the supporters to go out there and play.
“That was unbelievable,” commented Engels regarding Parkhead’s vibe. “I never experienced something like this. Those games I will remember for life.
“I hope it will be even crazier on Wednesday and we can really make a special night of it together with the fans. I believe that’s the most significant thing. I also believe that they can’t wait to watch us play and perform.
“I don’t think it really motivated us more (the atmosphere) because it’s the Champions League. You are so motivated already in the week and the days before the game.
The excitement you receive from the fans is incredible. You are so concentrated and so enthusiastic. You don’t feel the meters you are running.
It’s simply coming by itself because the audience is pushing you and it is the most wonderful sensation you can feel.”
