Sunderland have transfer ‘solution’ with plan for attacking target outlined

SUNDERLAND are in the market for a versatile attacker who is comfortable playing on both flanks and up-front.

However, Regis Le Bris believes that finding a player who meets the Black Cats’ needs in the January transfer window is challenging.

Sunderland are now focusing on their offensive after bringing in Enzo Le Fee to improve the midfield this month.

The Black Cats are still in talks with Westerlo over Matija Frigan, but it is known that a deal is not as close as some Belgian reports claim – and Le Bris refused to comment on the 21-year-old when questioned at his news conference on Monday.

Le Bris has previously stated that he wants Sunderland to sign players who are ready to make an immediate impact in the second half of the season, but there is no guarantee that any incoming attacker will be inserted into the starting lineup, given Wilson Isidor’s status as Wearside’s first choice forward.
With that in mind, Le Bris is looking for a forward who can provide valuable variation in the forward line.

He stated: “It’s apparent that the positions of many individuals on the club are really good right now.

“One option is to locate a flexible player who can play on both the left and right sides, as well as a striker.

“It could help the situation, but finding such a player is difficult. So, we’ll see.

Ben Brereton-Diaz signed for Sheffield United on Monday, and Leicester’s Tom Cannon is poised to follow suit.

There is tremendous rivalry for domestic strikers, which, following the Frigan negotiations, led to Le Bris being asked if Sunderland had to broaden their pool of targets.

“The market is open with a lot of speculation and rumours,” he informed us.

“There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes, so it is impossible to comment on rumors.

“At the present, we want to strengthen that position, but we need to find the correct profile. It is still a question of connection. One profile may pique our curiosity, but the player must also be related to us. The meeting {of connection} is still ongoing and has not yet been completed.
