JENSON Seelt will play for Sunderland’s Under-21s against Benfica in the Premier League International Cup tomorrow night.
Ian Poveda will play for the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light after rebounding from his recent setback.
Ahmed Abdullahi, who made his maiden appearance in red and white for the Under-21s last week, is expected to receive another chance to get more valuable match minutes.
Seelt will make his first appearance since March of last year, when he sustained a catastrophic knee injury that necessitated surgery.
Poveda, meanwhile, has had a terribly disappointing start to life on Wearside since his arrival in the summer. The former Leeds United winger has only played 44 minutes of first-team action thus far, with the first half of the season marred by various setbacks.
With that in mind, Sunderland will be patient with the winger in the next weeks, hoping to avoid any further setbacks.
Abdullahi, who needed groin surgery after signing from KAA Gent in the summer, played 45 minutes for the Under-21s on Friday and will continue his development with a few more appearances for Murty’s side.
In terms of injuries, Le Bris stated, “Jenson is now fully training with us and will play the first half of the U21s game against Benfica on Wednesday evening.” Ian should also compete against Benfica.
“Ahmed will need more time because he has been injured for a long time and is a young player.” To be ready for the first team, I believe he will need two or three games with the U21s.
Sunderland will be helped by the return of Alan Browne, who is just a week away from rejoining training. The midfielder has been out of action since early November due to a broken bone in his leg.
Le Bris responded: “With Browney, he needs one week more before he can join us in full training.”
Derby have lost their last four Championship games, although Le Bris stated, “It will be a tough game, but we have to be very respectful of all the teams in the league.” Even if they have rough spells, they can still beat every other squad.
“They can be very intense, play a variety of options, and perform exceptionally well in open play.” It will be difficult if we do not perform to our full potential.”
