Smoke pluming as crews fight large building fire in Norwich
Crews from the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service are now battling a fire that is raging in a structure that is abandoned in a suburb of the city.
Since there was a significant amount of smoke in the air, the fire department issued a statement on social media in which they advised residents to keep all doors and windows closed.
It was seen that smoke was emanating from a location close to Mousehold Heath; the fire department has since established that the fire is located on Dibden Road.
The Florida Group shoe factory, which had been producing shoes in Norwich since 1936, is located on Dibden Road. The firm had been in operation since 1936.
During the year 2018, the factory that manufactured footwear under the Van Dal name was shut down since manufacturing was shifted elsewhere.
Simply confirming that firefighters are there at the location is all that a spokeswoman for the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service will do.
In response to the fire, Alan Dunne, who is present at the scene, remarked, “It’s crazy, there are so many people here.”
Floods of automobiles departing from those who live here and cars coming from people who wish to observe are both examples of this phenomenon.
On the roadways, you are not allowed to move.
“There are around three fire engines that I can see this side of the building, one with a crane that you can see in the picture, but I can hear more sirens coming.”
Another witness, who didn’t want to be identified said: “There’s tons of police vehicles off of Silver Road, fire engines are coming and leaving swiftly.
“The street grew fairly crowded with people coming to take a look.
“We’ve observed several automobiles pulling up near to the school and obstructing the way for engines. They have now blocked the road.
“I even saw an Asda delivery driver pull over and get out to ask people that were stood around what was going on.”
