The Blades, currently second in the Championship, were open about their interest, with manager Chris Wilder admitting last weekend that he wanted to sign the Ireland forward.

A poor display from Eoghan O’Connell allowed the home side to net twice and earn a shock 2-1 win over Phil Parkinson’s side.

Wrexham now host Birmingham City in an 8pm kick-off on Thursday, January 23rd at the Racecourse Ground.

The Welsh side are yet to lose a game on home soil in 2024/25 and are actually unbeaten there in league for 10 months now – last tasting defeat in March 2024.

Wrexham are set to face by far and away their biggest test of the campaign in midweek, however, and it could have major implications on the promotion race.

Phil Parkinson hints at Jack Marriott involvement vs Birmingham City

Wrexham are now three points behind second-place Wycombe Wanderers and five adrift of Birmingham, who have played two games more.

A defeat on Thursday will therefore almost certainly end any chance the Red Dragons had of catching the Tom Brady-owned club.

The Birmingham boss given his verdict on the Wrexham meeting already, playing down the major hype around both team’s owners.

Now, Parkinson has been speaking ahead of the clash and seemed to hint Jack Marriott will be involved, as per Leader Live.

He said: “It is brilliant for Jack. He’s worked so hard in his rehab.

“It’s great to have him back and he’s got another week now to prepare for the Birmingham game.”

Jack Marriott comments on Wrexham return

The striker managed to score a very impressive five goals in 10 League One matches prior to suffering a long-term injury in October.

Marriott returned versus Shrewsbury Town last week but, as was to be expected after such a lengthy lay-off, looked rusty.

The 30-year-old has now commented on returning to action for Wrexham, as per Leader Live.

He said: “When it happened there was a lot of shock at first and it was very hard to get over.

“But what’s done is done and you fight through it and work as hard as you can to get back, and that’s ultimately what I’ve done.

“Thankfully, I’m back a lot quicker than expected which is great because we have still got such a long way to go until the end of the season.

“I am delighted to be back out there but just wish it was with taking three points.”
