Kellen Fisher and U21s striker could save Norwich City millions in transfer fees.
Norwich City’s debut season under Danish head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has been a mixed bag thus far.
The Canaries have entertained and frustrated the Carrow Road faithful in equal measure, as evidenced by their goals scored and allowed totals, but they remain in the thick of the battle to reach the play-offs. That is undoubtedly the goal of new majority owner Mark Attanasio, who has stated that his company, Norfolk Holdings, purchased an 85 percent stake in the club in November, succeeding Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones. In the dugout, Hoff Thorup has already demonstrated his own vision, which has resulted in Norwich acquiring a plethora of youthful talent over the summer and thus far this winter.
with the start of the season, an £8.5 million sum was spent on Ante Crnac and a potential £4 million on Amankwah Forson, among other transactions, while the Dane will be hoping Lewis Dobbin’s six-month loan proves more successful than Kaide Gordon’s stay with the club, which he recently returned to Liverpool. The East Anglian club has not been afraid to invest a significant amount of money in a squad that is presently the joint fifth-youngest in the division by average age. So, with that said, Football League World has identified two youngsters who have impressed for Norwich at such a young age and might save a significant amount of money on transfer fees.
Kellen Fisher
The first of these two is right-back Kellen Fisher, who is still making impressive progress with the Championship club. After signing from Bromley in 2023 to join Norwich’s academy, the defender was named on the bench 11 times under David Wagner until making his debut in a 3-1 loss to Sunderland last October, where he assisted Gabriel Sara. However, once Jack Stacey restored form and the Canaries clinched a play-off spot under the German, the England Under-20 international made only three of his nine games following January.
But, this season has seen the 20-year-old come on leaps and bounds under Hoff Thorup, making over 20 appearances in all competitions thus far, as well as featuring out-of-position at left-back on a handful of occasions.
After assisting Borja Sainz against Preston North End and playing a key role in the equaliser in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Middlesbrough in October, which was ruled an own goal by Seny Dieng, Fisher was signed to a new contract until the summer of 2028, earning rave reviews from his new head coach in the process. “Very pleased with Kellen. That is why we are playing him right now, and why he is such a crucial player. “It’s not like a wild card,” Hoffman Thorup told the Pink’Un. Fisher is continually fighting it out with the aforementioned Stacey, Norwich wouldn’t need to be worried about sourcing a replacement if the former AFC Bournemouth man was to eventually depart in the years to come, with Fisher being regarded as one of the EFL’s top talents at this moment in time.
Errol Mundle-Smith
Following Fisher is Errol Mundle-Smith, an 18-year-old striker who has recently impressed in Carrow Road’s youth ranks and will be looking to burst into the first-team picture shortly. Last season, the forward scored nine goals in 16 U18 Premier League matches, including a four-goal, three-assist streak against Arsenal, Brighton, and Aston Villa. Mundle-Smith also scored a hat-trick in Premier League 2 against the Villans’ Under-21s at Bodymoor Heath in April, demonstrating his ability to compete with older age groups at this point in his development.

Unsurprisingly, such a successful season led to the signing of his first professional deal at Carrow Road. “Hopefully I can start the season with the Under-21s, and then hopefully I can make my first-team debut,” the forward stated in an interview with official club outlets after the contract was announced. Mundle-Smith has done the same this season, leading the way in terms of top scorers for the Under-21s with five goals and one assist in only eight PL2 outings. If his current trajectory continues, the Canaries sensation will undoubtedly provide Hoff Thorup with much to think about in the coming years.
