Premier League strugglers Leicester City are on the verge of selling Ireland striker Tom Cannon.
Tom Cannon could be on the move as early as Tuesday, with Sheffield United agreeing a €12m fee with Leicester City for the Ireland striker.
The Championship high-flyers are now firmly in pole position to land the 22-year-old.
They will get the deal over the line if Sunderland, who are also in pursuit of his signature, fail to hijack their move at the 11th hour.
Cannon’s form during his loan spell at Stoke City during the first-half of the season sparked interest among the Potters’ Championship rivals in a permanent January switch.
He was recalled midway through his loan after scoring nine goals in 22 appearances.
Leicester will almost double what they paid Everton for the two-time capped Ireland striker once the deal goes through, with the Toffees due to receive almost €600,000 of the fee.
Burnley and Cannon’s former Goodison Park employers were also linked with a move, but the serious talking was coming from Sheffield United and Sunderland.
The Blades, currently second in the Championship, were open about their interest, with manager Chris Wilder admitting last weekend that he wanted to sign the Ireland forward.
“There’s talk between the clubs and agents and player and we’ve put a bid in,” said Wilder.
