Van driver denies causing Blofield motorcyclist crash

A van driver has denied being responsible for a collision that seriously injured a motorcycle.

On October 3 of last year, Derek Allen, 67, was driving a VW when it collided with a bicycle at a Plantation Road intersection close to Blofield.

A broken leg was among the injuries the biker sustained in the crash, according to information provided to Norwich Crown Court.

Prosecutor Martin Ivory claimed that he was moving at 40 mph when the van slammed into his path at a junction.

Allen, of Norwich’s Brightwell Road, entered a not guilty plea to charges of causing serious injury through reckless driving.

According to what the court heard, he acknowledged to the police at the site of the collision that he was at fault and that he had failed to see the motorbike before he pulled out.

But his defence counsel said he disagreed his conduct amounted to careless driving.

Judge Katharine Moore stated that before a trial that is set for September 2025, further evidence from the prosecution and defence, such as medical records, 999 recordings, and body-worn camera footage, is required.

Royal received unconditional bail.
