Stockport County boss on Reading FC win and man-marking job
On their maiden visit to the Select Car Leasing Stadium, the Hatters defeated a dismal Reading team in a commanding display to win in the town for the first time since 1992.
Sam Smith gave Reading a comeback on the hour mark after heading two set pieces past Joel Pereira in the first fifteen minutes, but Jack Diamond’s goal shortly after ended the contest.
Despite playing one more game than Noel Hunt’s team, Stockport’s 4-1 victory against the Royals at Edgeley Park in October put them ahead of their hosts in sixth place into the play-offs.
“It was a really big one [win],” Challinor stated following the victory. This historic Premier League stadium is a terrific spot to visit. Although I am aware of their issues, it is an excellent football stadium.
Examining the win in further detail, Challinor gave special recognition to his team’s work off the ball.
Wing, who was named Reading’s Player of the Season the previous season, has contributed ten goals in League One thus far, but Will Collar man-marked him the entire time, stopping him from controlling play as he usually does.
Ollie Norwood, a former Royal, was able to take over as a result and helped his new team with two assists.
