Southampton ‘In Talks’ to Sign ‘Monster’ Alongside Gronbaek

According to TBR Football, Southampton and Rennes are negotiating a deal for former Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara.

With the transfer of Rennes forward Albert Gronbaek almost finalized, the Saints are getting closer to making their first acquisition under Ivan Juric. They also seem to be aiming for a double swoop from the French team, with Kamara in their sights.

Talks are reportedly still going on regarding the Finland international’s January transfer to St. Mary’s after he lost favor with boss Jorge Sampaoli in France.

Kamara is reportedly a player of great interest to the Saints and Juric, who are anticipated to welcome several signings this month, even though a deal has not yet been struck.

TBR Football claims that Kamara is currently being discussed as a potential replacement for Gronbaek in the transfer of Rennes to Southampton this winter.

The 29-year-old “monster,” who moved from Leeds to Rennes in July, has had difficulty playing regularly in Ligue 1 lately, appearing in just one 13-minute cameo since the beginning of December.

After signing a four-year contract with the French team upon his arrival, the Finland international seems to have lost favor with Sampaoli, who was named head coach last month.

After going winless in his first five Premier League games, Southampton is anticipated to stay active in January and could add two or three new players to help Juric.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Saints are also close to hiring Johannes Spors as their next director of football, however it is probable that he will join after the January transfer window.

Spors, who was previously the worldwide sports director of 777 Group, which owned Genoa, Standard Liege, Vasco da Gama, and Hertha Berlin, will be in charge of all of Sport Republic’s teams, including Goztepe and Valenciennes.
