Plans revealed for parking restrictions on dozens of roads across town

Detailed plans have been revealed for parking restrictions across Chippenham that include several town centre roads.

A variety of limitations could be imposed on dozens of routes throughout the municipality.

There are plans to prohibit parking on long lengths of roadways, while other proposals include banning both parking and loading and establishing disabled-only spots.

The plans include busy town centre routes such as The Bridge and Station Hill.

A section of The Bridge may be allocated for persons with disability badges, while a portion of Station Hill could become a loading zone.

Stretches of various key roads in and out of town, including Bristol Road, Malmesbury Road, and London Road, may also be free of waiting limits.
It is envisaged that the ideas will improve safety and reduce congestion across town.
According to a Wiltshire Council order, the proposed waiting restrictions were put forward for consultation by Chippenham Town Council and the Chippenham and Villages Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group in response to requests from the town council.

“The proposed restrictions are intended to improve safety and access for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists where applicable.”

Residents have until February 10 to offer their thoughts on the ideas, which are now under consultation.
