Ex-West Brom midfielder returns to coaching staff following Tony Mowbray’s return

Sixteen years after his initial tenure as the Baggies manager ended, Mowbray made his comeback to the club on Friday when he was appointed as its new manager.

Mark Venus, Mowbray’s longtime assistant manager, was confirmed to accompany him last week.

The composition of Mowbray’s first team backroom staff has also been finalized, with Morrison, a former Albion midfielder and first team coach, rejoining the team.

After being signed by Mowbray during his first stint as manager in 2007, the midfield player was promoted to coach under Sam Allardyce. He later worked under Valerien Ismael and, more recently, Steve Bruce.

He continued to work in Carlos Corberan’s backroom before returning to the club’s academy.

In other news, Damia Abella, who is still in his first position as first team analyst, and Boaz Myhill, who has been a member of a three-pronged interim team, will continue to coach the first team as their goalkeeper.

Abella is credited as being a key member of the interim squad that has been in charge of Albion since Corberan left on Christmas Eve.

Chris Brunt, who has been leading the caretaker management team, will return to his job as head of loans as part of Albion’s staff restructuring. He has also been given two additional roles.

As ‘lead tactical scout’, he will continue to work with Mowbray’s backroom team and assume responsibility for paths and PDP talent.
