Wrecked – the police car involved suffered serious damage as a result of the incident.

A “FORMAL complaint” has been made following a crash which saw a police car suffer serious damage as it flipped onto its roof in Colchester.

Last month, on August 28, a police car was wrecked after ending up on its roof following a serious crash in North Station Road.

The smash happened close to the Victoria Inn pub, at about 2.40pm.

A bar worker told the Gazette they “heard sirens going and then a massive crunch”.

They added: “There was a cloud of debris coming across the window and I saw the car upside down.”

A road closure was put in place while emergency services, including Essex Fire and Rescue Service and East of England Ambulance Service, dealt with the incident.

Crash – the road was taped off whilst the debris was cleared.

On arrival, firefighters reported one person was trapped inside and worked for about 25 minutes to release them.

Police say the officers involved sustained injuries which are “not life-threatening or life-changing”.

The force has said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A spokesman added: “There has been no referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

“We have received a formal complaint relating to the incident which is still being assessed.
