Talks opened: Sheffield United now set to make offer for “superb” maestro with nine UCL goals

Sheffield United are speeding up their pursuit of a “superb” midfielder, with an official offer expected soon, according to reports.

Blades looking to strengthen in attacking areas

Chris Wilder plainly believes that new offensive additions are required if his team is to go all the way and secure promotion from the Championship this season, and the Blades are currently well-positioned to win the race for two attackers.

A £13 million fee has been agreed upon with Leicester City for the signing of Tom Cannon, leaving just personal details to be agreed upon to complete the move.
If Wilder wants to bring in more than one new striker this month, he is also in a strong position to win the competition for Southampton’s Ben Brereton Diaz, as the Chile international would only consider a return to United despite interest from elsewhere.
Sheffield United are looking to sign a new striker and an attacking midfielder this month, and there has been an update on their pursuit of Besiktas’ Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

According to sources in the Turkish media (via Sport Witness), the Blades have increased their interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain, with Besiktas attempting to unload him this month after deeming him surplus to needs.

Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The Championship promotion hopes are expected to make an official bid for the offensive midfielder soon, with the goal of taking him on loan until the end of the season, though it is unknown whether they intend to make the deal permanent in the summer.

There may be competition for the 31-year-old’s signature, with French club Nantes also reportedly keen.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is proven at the top level

Despite his injury history with Liverpool, the midfielder scored a memorable Champions League goal against Manchester City in 2018, one of nine in Europe’s premier league.
The Portsmouth-born maestro is a versatile midfielder who has been praised by football journalist Leanne Prescott for his defensive abilities while on Merseyside.
The only problem about signing Oxlade-Chamberlain is that his finest days are likely behind him, as he failed to make an impression at Besiktas this season, appearing for just 113 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig.

However, the former Champions League winner with Liverpool may still be able to perform at Championship level, and signing him on loan rather than permanently would be a low-risk move for the Blades.
