Premier League forced to release VAR statement after Nottingham Forest goal disallowed
Why Nikola Milenkovic‘s goal against Southampton was disallowed has been confirmed by the Premier League. In the second half, Milenkovic believed he had headed a free kick from Anthony Elanga to put Forest ahead 4-1. The goal was given by referee Anthony Taylor, but VAR directed him to his pitchside monitor before reversing his first ruling.
“VAR checked the referee’s call of goal and determined that Wood interfered with play after coming from an offside position,” the Premier League Match Center wrote in a statement shared on social media site X. The referee reversed the initial ruling and disallowed the goal following an on-field review. After Milenkovic’s attempt was disallowed, the Reds still had a 3-1 lead because of goals from Chris Wood, Elliot Anderson, and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the first half.
