Alexander Isak has revealed he has had the ‘best feeling’ in his career at Newcastle United because it is ‘special’ scoring goals in front of Geordies.

Isak has certainly filled his boots since completing a club-record move from Real Sociedad in 2022. Remarkably, Isak has bagged 52 goals in just 90 games and the Sweden star became the first Newcastle player ever to score in eight successive Premier League matches earlier this week.

Isak’s form has not gone unnoticed elsewhere, of course. Paul Merson questioned whether Newcastle could ‘turn down’ £150m for Isak, despite the striker not being for sale, while another former Arsenal academy graduate, Jay Bothroyd, suggested the Gunners could ‘get him at the end of the season’. However, Isak reiterated that he is ‘certainly happy’ with where he is in his career ‘at the moment’.

“It is amazing, [the fans] love their team and they love their striker,” he told TNT Sports. “Everywhere you go in this city, everyone is loving Newcastle, which is special. It is the best feeling I have had in my career. Scoring goals in front of these fans, it is special.”

Although Newcastle suffered a bruising 4-1 defeat against Bournemouth, on an afternoon Isak failed to find the back of the net in the top-flight for the first time since November, the fourth-placed Magpies remain in the hunt for a Champions League place. How Isak and his team-mates would love to return to that stage after sampling life at Europe’s top table last season.

“It is hard to set specific targets, obviously we want to get into the Champions League,” Isak added. “You can see where a good run can take you. If you look two months back, we were in a completely different place.

“So yeah, we really just have to focus on our performances, but we can’t hide from the fact that we want to be in the Champions League.”
