EFL club ask about £10m Nottingham Forest star never picked by Nuno Espirito Santo

Blackburn inquires about Lewis O’Brien, a midfielder for the Forest

Blackburn manager John Eustace is eager to get O’Brien to Ewood Park after a loan transfer to the team failed spectacularly two years ago, according to Alan Nixon via his Patriot. In January 2023, Rovers failed to submit the necessary documentation on time. O’Brien was left in limbo as a result, and he has since been out on loan to the MLS to play football somewhere else. O’Brien has only made 14 appearances for Forest since joining from Huddersfield for £10 million in the summer of 2022, and he is free to depart this month. Given how they handled the player in the past when he was keen to go on loan, it’s unclear if Forest would accept Blackburn’s request at this point.

O’Brien must be permanently offloaded by Forest within the transfer window.

No one will benefit from another loan. Any O’Brien contract must at the very least have a provision allowing him to relocate permanently in the summer following a loan. This season, Blackburn is in the running for promotion. Therefore, if Forest can try to recoup any of the £10 million that was spent on him, this transfer might not be the worst thing in the world. O’Brien is a championship-caliber player. He would undoubtedly welcome the opportunity to play for a team that might give him that chance again in the future, and it’s difficult to understand why it didn’t work out for him in the Premier League.
