Danny Rohl in fresh row with Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri over release clause

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is at loggerheads with the club’s hierarchy over the price of his release clause.

According to an article posted on Alan Nixon’s Patreon on Sunday, this is the latest twist in a saga of friction between Rohl and the Owls’ board.

Rohl has previously been connected with a Hillsborough escape, and he intimated that he declined the opportunity to take over at Southampton in December.

It comes just a few days after Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri revealed at a fan forum that he and Rohl had no discussions about transfer targets this month.

According to Nixon’s story, Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday’s administration are at odds over the price of his release clause, despite the fact that the Owls manager has done an excellent job at Hillsborough given the circumstances.

Nixon claims Rohl was denied the Southampton position because the Saints refused to pay the entire compensation package.
It is then revealed that Rohl and his agent attended a crisis meeting last week to discuss his future, as well as perhaps negotiating the amount of his release clause. This could indicate that his camp feels somewhat stuck by the present price on his head.

However, Chansiri is claimed to be standing hard on the conditions of Rohl’s long-term contract, which he signed on May 24, 2024, and so it appears that his release clause price will not be revised.

As a result, the standoff between Rohl and Chansiri does not look to be coming to an end anytime soon, as the fires between the two continue to burn.

Rohl disclosed in December that he and the Wednesday owner had not discussed a transfer plan for the January window, with Chansiri alleging midway through that window that no progress had been made toward having that key meeting.
The 35-year-old manager is one of the most generally respected young managers in the game, and the Wednesday faithful admire him for steering the club away from the brink of relegation last season before transforming them into play-off hopefuls in the first half of this season.

He has also stated on multiple times that he adores the club and wishes to stay. It wasn’t until December that he stated, “The most essential key thing is that I’m here and have decided to stay. “I’m feeling great.”

“This is a fantastic club that has taken me to heart, and I feel exactly the same way,” he stated after signing his contract extension last year.

“I never intended to go anywhere other than Hillsborough. I feel right at home here; the fans have been fantastic, treating me and my staff with nothing but courtesy since the first day.”

However, every manager has a breaking point, and the prolonged argument with Chansiri may only bring him closer to it.

As a result, Rohl and Chansiri must find a way to overcome their differences as soon as possible, or they risk missing out on a real opportunity to strengthen their play-off credentials through the transfer market.

Given Rohl’s popularity among Owls fans, if this scenario remains unresolved for much longer, the mood among the crowd might swiftly turn negative. This would be a huge disappointment for the club, given how strong their team has been on the pitch this season.
