Tony Mowbray | ‘It’s a new challenge and a new era’

The Baggies manager signed a two-and-a-half-year contract on Friday and will succeed Chris Brunt on Sunday. On Tuesday, he made his first appearance as a manager at Middlesbrough, another former team.

Doctors gave Mowbray the all-clear earlier this week after he had a “tough year” after being diagnosed with colon cancer.

The 61-year-old also acknowledges that he is “excited” about getting ready for his second Albion boss reveal before Saturday’s home game against Stoke City (ko 3pm).

“I have a lot of affection for this club. I support the team, and I was a member of it both before and after I was manager. Every time I’ve returned with other teams, it’s been a unique experience at this club.

“The reason I spoke with the owner was because it’s a true family football club. It makes me very happy to be returning and supporting the team.

“I want to express my gratitude to Chairman Shilen Patel, Sporting Director Andrew Nestor, and everyone else who helped me return for giving me another chance to lead this outstanding team. I enjoy the club’s layout and its patrons. They were quite modest in our conversations; there was no haughtiness, just decent people who want to be successful.

“The club seems to be on the rise again, even if a lot has changed since I first arrived. The supporters are the one thing I’m certain won’t have changed, and I’m eager to resume our wonderful relationship.

“I’m prepared to enjoy the challenge once more. This task is new. I am aware that I have been here before, but for me, the football club is a new challenge, a new age, and a new moment.

He went on to say: “I had a terrific experience my first time here, and I hope to put together a team that plays positive football and gives the supporters wonderful memories of winning football games.

“Now that I’m back, I hope we can return to the Premier League, which is where the team, owners, supporters, and club all want to be. That will be our main goal.

“The team has a great balance of youth and experience, and there is a lot of quality. I’m responsible for getting the

“We’re going to attack, we’re going to be positive, we’re going to go and play and hopefully get the fans out of their seats and win some games. “The starting point is a good one, we’re not scrambling to get away from anything. We’ve got a great opportunity and chance to compete towards the top end of the table. On his return to health, Tony said: “I’ve been given the all-clear from the doctors after scans earlier this week and I’m full of energy, full of vibrancy and ready to go and do what I feel I do best.

In the end, I’ve had a difficult year in terms of my health. I can’t sit here and claim that it was a positive experience, but for me, it was a life-changing event.

There have been difficult and depressing times with the family, but I look back on it as a life experience and am so thankful that I’ve survived it.

“I’m ready to go, so I won’t be lacking in energy. Two times a week, I’ve been driven back and forth for treatment while laying in a hospital bed for a year.

“I have a lot more energy now. I’m back, according to people who know me well. Go ahead and do it.
