Everton to ‘bite the bullet’ and reject ‘£15m Calvert-Lewin offer’ – O’Rourke

Despite his contract status, sources have told Football Insider that Everton would turn down offers for Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the January transfer window.

In order to retain the striker for the remainder of the season, Everton will need to “bite the bullet” of losing him for nothing, according to senior journalist Pete O’Rourke on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle will want to sign the 27-year-old for free when his contract expires because they believe he would be the ideal replacement for Callum Wilson.

Although David Moyes’ team is anticipated to seek £15 million in order to begin negotiations regarding Calvert-Lewin’s departure, they are still hesitant to let him go since they believe they cannot afford to lose him.

This occurs in the midst of continuous rumours regarding Beto’s future, as the Toffees seem more inclined to allow the Portuguese to depart this month than Calvert-Lewin.

Everton is adamant that the striker will be the man to lead the line in their battle against relegation, even though he hasn’t shown much in front of goal this season.

Everton make Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit decision after Beto news

In October, Football Insider exclusively disclosed that Beto was thinking of leaving Goodison Park during the January transfer window in order to play for the first team.

There is a feeling that Everton will only permit one of its two attackers to leave, considering the suspicions circulating around his future, because they do not want to be forced into the transfer market.

After only scoring twice in 20 games this season, Calvert-Lewin has been a source of annoyance for fans. He also blew a great opportunity in the last moments of their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.

Moyes, the new manager, is still eager for the Englishman to lead the line like he did under Sean Dyche because he thinks his hold-up play is a great strength.

Despite their desperate attempts to keep the striker at Goodison Park, it has been agreed that he will depart for free in the summer after several new contract offers were turned down.
