The Salford Red Devils have accepted a proposal from Castleford Tigers for prop Jack Ormondroyd. Rugby League Live can tell that the Reds have agreed to sell the forward for a transfer fee, with Ormondroyd set to become the club’s first player to leave since revealing the need to cut costs.
The Tigers must now agree on personal terms with the 33-year-old, who has spent the last five seasons with the Reds and previously played for Leeds Rhinos and Featherstone Rovers. However, it appears like a settlement is imminent.
Earlier this week, Rugby League Live reported that Castleford were interested in signing Ormondroyd to improve their pack. The Tigers have been looking for a midfield addition this off-season, and Salford’s position has allowed them to make a bid for one of their players.
Cas coach Danny McGuire knows Ormondroyd from his time at Headingley. During Leeds’ 2017 Grand Final victory, the two played together five times. It appears that they are about to rejoin in a player-coach dynamic.
However, Ormondroyd appears to be the first to move in a deal that will see Castleford land the front-line prop they have been hunting for.
The Tigers have already added quality to their roster, signing Daejarn Asi, Judah Rimbu, Zac Cini, and Jeremiah Simbiken. They want to improve on last year’s tenth place finish.
