Wrexham star James McClean has taken to social media to send a furious message to Shrewsbury fans after their 2-1 defeat on Thursday (January 16).

The 35-year-old received a lot of criticism from Shrewsbury fans and even addressed them after the game. John Marquis gave Shrewsbury the lead after 17 minutes, but former Premier League striker Steven Fletcher levelled six minutes later. Shrewsbury subsequently scored the winner shortly after the interval, this time through Marquis, winning a crucial three points for the relegation-threatened team. Wrexham are now third in the battle for promotion to the Championship, two points behind Birmingham City, with 51 points from 26 games.

The Republic of Ireland international has been instrumental for Wrexham this season, starting 25 of 28 games in all competitions, scoring three goals and contributing three assists in 2215 minutes of play. McClean took to Instagram to blast Shrewsbury fans, writing, “In fairness, if I was born and raised in Shrewsbury, I’d probably be this angry as well because it’s an absolute cesspit full of inbreds.” Wrexham and Birmingham will face off again on Thursday (January 23), with McClean’s side looking to avenge their 3-1 defeat in the opposite encounter.
