Burnley are now vying for promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and they could even win their second Championship title in three seasons come the conclusion of the season.
Following a 1-0 derby day win over local rivals Blackburn Rovers on January 4th, the Clarets are now just one point behind league leaders Leeds United, with a key encounter against fellow automatic promotion contenders Sunderland on Friday night.
In a tight race for a berth in next season’s Premier League, manager Scott Parker will be seeking to supervise a successful January transfer window.
The Clarets have already signed full-back Oliver Sonne from Danish club Silkeborg and re-signed fan favourite Ashley Barnes from Norwich City.
However, Turf Moor has seen some exits this month, including promising attacker Michael Mellon, who departed the Lancashire club to join League Two Bradford City on loan, as first reported by Football League World.
Meanwhile, as the transfer window approaches its halfway point, FLW asked our Clarets fan analyst, Josh Lucas, if he believed there was a player in the Burnley team right now who would be eager to leave the club, either on loan or permanently, before deadline day.
Clarets fan pundit confirms Mike Tresor transfer
Josh stated, “A player who will be eager to move away is Mike Tresor. “He has made his goals pretty plain, even without saying anything.
“He’s injured then, all of a sudden he’s back fit and working with the club, (then) he’s injured again, (then) he’s suddenly ill, and (he) removed all his Burnley posts and had a little weep on social media while he didn’t get his move in January.
“He made it plain that he didn’t want to play for us anymore, and he believed he was more important than the club, despite the fact that he did nothing last season.
“I feel like he knows every Burnley fan has kind of turned on him now, and kind of said you obviously don’t want to be here, so just go.”
Tresor’s transfer to Burnley has not worked out.
The wideman joined the Clarets on a season-long loan from Belgian side Genk ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Unfortunately for the Belgian international, his debut season in English football resulted in relegation to the Championship, as he made only 16 top-flight games and failed to score a single goal due to hamstring injury.

Despite his dismal Premier League performance, the Clarets were required to sign the 25-year-old ahead of the current second-tier season for a fee of around £15.4 million.
Last summer, Dutch heavyweights Ajax were rumoured to be interested in his talents, but the former Genk player has yet to make the move to the Eredivisie.
Tresor has yet to appear for the Clarets in the Championship this season, despite Parker assuring the Burnley Express in October that his winger was close to recovering from an injury.
His only appearance for Parker’s side this season came last Saturday, as a substitute in a 3-1 FA Cup third round win over League One Reading, where he assisted Zian Flemming’s first of two goals.
However, it is possible that the Clarets will still want to cash in on Tresor if a good offer is made for his services this month, given that he has only made 20 appearances for the club since joining in 2023.
