Tottenham plotting Juventus revenge as battle brews for £25m international centre-back

Tottenham are apparently among a number of Premier League clubs interested in recruiting an AC Milan centre-back who is also on the radar of Italian heavyweights Juventus.

Ange Postecoglou has been looking to add another central defender after Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies all went down with injuries, leaving Radu Dragusin and Archie Grey to fill in for the last several months.

And, despite the fact that both Romero and Van de Ven are expected to return before the end of the month, Tottenham still continue to be linked with players to bolster that position.

One centre-back who continues to be tipped to make a return to the Premier League is Milan star Fikayo Tomori.

Tomori is well-known in Milan and plays a significant role in the planning of Thomas Tuchel’s new England government. The 27-year-old has started the last two games for Milan, although he has been in and out of the squad this season.

After Barcelona decided against a Ronald Araujo exit, Juventus turned their attention to signing Tomori, according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

According to reports, the Turin giants have put a contract on the table that includes a €5 million upfront fee, a €20 million summertime obligation, and a further €5 million in bonuses.

However, significant interest remains from English clubs, most notably Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brighton, who are all keeping tabs on the player’s situation.

The report adds that Spurs are ‘big fans’ of the England international, while they would also be delighted to beat Juventus to the punch after the Italian outfit did exactly that to them after winning the race for PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani.

Tomori open to summer exit but Conceicao a fan

Although Tomori is amenable to a summer transfer, incoming Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao may have different plans, according to TBR Football.

According to reports, the Portuguese strategist is a huge admirer of Tomori’s abilities and would genuinely rather he not be sold in January or at the end of the current campaign.

Given that Tomori previously acknowledged growing up as an Arsenal fan, there might be some family conflicts if the defender ends up at Tottenham.

Indeed, Tomori has previously spoken of Gunners legend Thierry Henry being his idol as a youngster, while he’s continued to admire him as a pundit.

“When I was growing up I was a big fan. He was my idol. And as a pundit he’s really funny,” Tomori told CBS Sport in 2023.

As for whether he moves on this month, we have just over two weeks to see.
