Newcastle United could do a lot worse than get Alexander Isak to sign a new contract.

As they arrived to work on Friday morning, Newcastle United executives were undoubtedly aware of Erling

Haaland’s Manchester City huge deal.

The Norwegian international’s new nine-and-a-half-year contract not only gives City a significant boost as their title

ambitions dwindle, but also alters the prospective landscape of the Premier League. City will return next season, that

is certain.

However, Haaland’s ambition to become the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer is clear to see. One statistician

calculated that Haaland would only need 18 goals each season to break Alan Shearer’s record of 260.

His devotion sends a strong message to the football world, since not only is Man City’s position unaffected by a poor

season, but the Premier League’s title as the best league in the world appears to be intact. Whereas Serie A and La

Liga were traditionally considered the best leagues in Europe to play in, the Premier League has now added another

feather to its cap.

As the ink dries on Haaland’s contract over at the Etihad Stadium, it will get minds-boggling at St James’ Park on

Isak. City can boast of being one of the best strikers in the world, but Newcastle could very easily argue the same

thing with Isak.
