Talks underway: Nottingham Forest now in negotiations over selling “fantastic” player this month

Florian Plettenberg, a reporter for Sky Sports, claims that Nottingham Forest is now in negotiations to sell a “fantastic” £20 million player to a Premier League competitor this month. The Tricky Trees are looking to add a striker this month, but considering Chris Wood’s outstanding play in front of goal this season, any newcomers will probably have to take a backseat. With 13 league goals so far this season, Wood has been instrumental in his team’s surprising run for Champions League spots.

Forest is interested in a number of players, including Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord, whose possible £35 million transfer has been the subject of growing rumors in recent weeks.Nuno Santo’s team is also aware of Manfred Ugalde of Spatak Moscow, who has pleased them with his goal-scoring performance in the Russian Premier League this season. There has been some discussion regarding Taiwo Awoniyi leaving this month due to rumors that a new striker is on their way to The City Ground, however Rob Dorsett and Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports have subsequently said that a deal will not be made if a replacement is not found.

The details of a trade are currently being discussed, and Forest is attempting to hold out for a fee of £20 million, however the Hammers would need to lower that amount in order to agree to terms. The Tricky Trees’ readiness to move forward with a deal to sell the Nigerian may be an indication that they are certain they have found a suitable target, as they are unwilling to approve a move until a replacement is found.

A difficult choice for Forest

Since joining before the 2022–2023 season, the 27-year-old has been instrumental in reviving Nottingham Forest as a Premier League team, therefore it would be a shame to let him go. In his first Premier League season, the former Union Berlin player scored ten goals. Despite injury setbacks during his second season, he still contributed nine goals in 20 games.

Wood may believe a move is necessary for the sake of his career because, considering the caliber of his performances this season, it was always going to be extremely difficult for the Nigerian international to push his way into contention. West Ham, who presently have few forward alternatives due to the injuries of Niclas Füllkrug and Michail Antonio, may benefit from the agreement if Forest finds a suitable replacement and can sell the forward for about £20 million. It will be unfortunate if Awoniyi leaves this winter, but it might be the right choice because he has occasionally been “fantastic” for Forest.
