Sheffield Wednesday teammate spells out importance of securing fresh deal for ‘irreplaceable’ Shea Charles
The Saints activated a recall option in the Northern Ireland midfielder’s season-long loan deal, and Owls chairman
We don’t yet know what those loan terms would be. Since joining from the Premier League team in July, the 21-year-
old has been a constant presence in Championship football and has had a significant impact on the Owls’ ascent to
the periphery of the play-off picture.
Bernard replied, “I’m not too sure about the specifics of all that, but I can say that Shea Charles has been our first,
second, and third best player this season.” I’m simply being honest there. The Charles family as a whole, including
Shea Charles and Pierce, are very exceptional kids. They are level-headed, put in a lot of effort, and constantly go
above and above in the gym. Their futures are bright for both of them.
If Shea leaves, you won’t be able to replace him. He has contributed significantly to our team this season and is one
of those players that cannot be replaced. He runs a lot and does a lot both with and without the ball, so it’s obvious
that there would be a large void if he didn’t play.
When asked how the team would be affected if an agreement could be reached to keep Charles with the Owls through
the conclusion of the season, Bernard once again did not mince words.
“Very massive,” he remarked. “Very large. It would be heartbreaking for everyone in the changing room to watch him
go. In addition to being a terrific football player, he is a wonderful person off the game. I hope we can work things
out, he remains, and we can get started. If not, however, it is what it is.
