Carrick explained: “George has done exceptionally well. We brought him in on loan. It was one of those situations that worked for everyone. I’ve said it before: it’s not always simple, and there are many parties involved. Sometimes you go in knowing precisely what you’re going to get out, and sometimes it’s a little more ambiguous.
“The spread of age is one thing; the varieties of experience are quite different. It’s a separate thing. It’s not always about age; it relies on what you’ve been through and what kinds of experiences you’ve had. We’re aware of this and are working to achieve the correct balance moving forward.”
Speaking on Wednesday, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna revealed that conversations were ongoing. He replied, “I don’t think there’s anything to announce, but I feel there is interest. I believe there are certain talks going on that I haven’t participated in.
“He’s enjoying a good season, which is fantastic to watch. Middlesbrough are having another successful season. I believe there is considerable interest on that side. I’m not sure if a deal can be done.”
