A man who died after a car collided with a truck early on an icy morning has been named.
At 6.50am on Thursday, January 2, a white Toyota Hilux and a DAF truck collided on Tivetshall Road near Pulham St Mary, resulting in the tragedy.
The passenger in the Toyota was declared deceased at the scene and has been identified as 27-year-old Lewis Michael Henson Roberts.
Jacqueline Lake, senior coroner, opened an inquest into his death at Norfolk Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, January 14.
His father, Lee Roberts, verified in a statement to a coroner’s officer that his son was born on October 16, 1997 in Norwich.
He resided on Lewis Drive in Roydon, near Diss, and worked as a shop assistant. It is thought he worked for Aldi.
Mr Roberts died as a result of many significant injuries sustained during the road traffic collision, according to consultant histopathologist Ray Lonsdale.
In April, another pre-inquest hearing will be held at the courthouse in Norwich, which is located at County Hall. The date for the entire inquest to determine the official cause of death has yet to be set.
Following the incident, an air ambulance transported the Toyota driver to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he was treated for critical injuries. The driver of the DAF truck sustained minor injuries.
Firefighters from Earlham, Long Stratton, and Harleston were also dispatched to the location, releasing two people who were trapped in their cars.
Tivetshall Road was closed for six hours following the incident before reopening at 12.45 p.m.
Anyone with information about the crash should contact Norfolk Constabulary, using reference 41 of January 2.
