Atlanta United is interested in Odsonne Edouard in Major League Soccer, although the Crystal Palace loanee forward doesn’t seem to be their top pick.
After MLS team Atlanta United reportedly made a £15 million offer for forward Odsonne Edouard, Leicester City‘s recruitment plans may get a big boost.
Woyo Coulibaly, a right-back, is the only player City has let go, but they hope to bolster their roster with at least a few more additions this transfer window. They would benefit if Edouard, who was loaned to Crystal Palace, left.
Edouard hasn’t played a minute under Ruud van Nistelrooy, and there isn’t much of a reason to keep him around for the second half of the season when Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka are available. With teams only allowed to have two loans from rival clubs at a time and Facundo Buonanotte currently occupying the other spot, his departure would free up a Premier League loan slot for City.
Van Nistelrooy acknowledged on Thursday that City was searching the loan market due to constrained budgets. “We’re working on it, adding every possibility we can,” he stated. Both loans and permanents, as the club sees fit. We’re hoping to add more.
Although it would be advantageous if Edouard left without City having to terminate his loan, his transfer to Atlanta is not yet confirmed. Although Mail Sport claims that the MLS team has made a £15 million bid for Edouard, it doesn’t appear that he is their first priority.
The team has been searching for a big-name striker to join them for the 2025 season in the US.
They are also negotiating a deal of up to £20 million for Ivorian striker Emmanuel Latte Lath with Middlesbrough. If that sale goes through, then their interest in Edouard will expire.
Additionally, City is a little powerless in this situation because Palace will decide Edouard’s future. However, since he was surplus to requirements under Oliver Glasner and has 18 months left on his Selhurst Park contract, it wouldn’t be shocking if they took advantage of this opportunity to sell the French forward.
If Edouard leaves and City opens up a loan slot, they’ll probably target a new center-back or right-sided winger, though they might also target a new striker.
