Defender ‘set for medical’ at Birmingham City as Chris Davies addresses transfer need
Prior to a potential transfer from Norwich City, seasoned Scotland international Grant Hanley is allegedly scheduled to get a medical at Birmingham City. Under Johannes Hoff Thorup, Hanley has lost favor at Carrow Road and is open to a transfer. After loaning Dion Sanderson to Blackburn Rovers, the Blues need to acquire a new defender this month. Hanley would provide Ben Davies, Christoph Klarer, and Kristian Bielik competition.
According to the Pinkun, a Norwich-based publication, Hanley is “thought to have traveled to the Midlands to undergo a medical and sign for Blues.” This month, Hanley has already been connected to moves to Blackburn and Sheffield United.Chris Davies, the manager of the Blues, has previously acknowledged that he is looking to replace Sanderson, and Hanley would offer a wealth of experience. The 33-year-old’s resume includes three Championship promotions and 59 caps for Scotland.
“From a selfish perspective, I want to keep him because he’s a leader and a captain, and he’s a very experienced guy; he’s training well, and he’s good around the young boys,” Norwich manager Thorup recently stated in reference to Hanley. However, if he approaches me and says, “I want to play first team football on a regular basis,” I can understand. Naturally, we must then take a seat and assess the issue. Additionally, it goes without saying that we must be as honest as possible with him and, of course, realistic about the offers he will receive in January.Although I would want to have him in the group from a self-serving standpoint, I can certainly understand if you want to examine something that comes up.
