Aston Villa player fined £15,000 for acknowledging an FA charge

Jhon Duran, a striker for Villa, was fined £15,000 by the Football Association for kicking a water bottle after being sent off at Newcastle on Boxing Day.

The Colombian international accepted a charge of improper conduct and said in a statement that his behavior had been unacceptable. After being sent off for what referee Anthony Taylor deemed to be a deliberate stamp on Newcastle defender Fabian Schar, Duran kicked the bottle.

The 21-year-old was then banned for three games after Villa failed to appeal the ruling.

A three-member regulatory commission examined footage showing the water bottle traveling between 30 and 40 yards across the pitch before charging Duran retrospectively for the incident, which happened while he was standing in the technical area after leaving the field.

The commission concluded that a financial sanction, rather than any additional suspension, was the appropriate punishment, noting that Duran might have been upset about what he perceived to be an unfair decision.
