B B C Sports: Ipswich Town: Joe Cole on Town boss Kieran McKenna.
Former England international Joe Cole believes Kieran McKenna would be a hot property if he can maintain Ipswich Town in the Premier League this season. McKenna, who led the Blues to back-to-back automatic promotions in his first two full seasons as manager, recently oversaw a 2-1 victory over Tottenham. As of the third international break of the season, the club is no longer in the Premier League relegation zone.
“I’ve been really impressed with Ipswich Town under Kieran McKenna,” Cole told Paddy Power. “When you consider they’ve come up from League One and the Championship, with a manager who’s never managed at the highest level, things could have gone terribly wrong. “What they’ve accomplished is nothing short of extraordinary; their victory over Tottenham lifts them above the relegation zone. If they avoid relegation this season, Kieran McKenna will likely be able to walk into any job in the country because his stock will be so high.
“I like the way they play, and their young players like Liam Delap and Leif Davis – they’re fantastic.” McKenna signed a new four-year contract at Portman Road in the summer, following strong speculation linking him with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Brighton. Ipswich’s campaign will resume on Sunday (4.30pm) when Manchester United visits Portman Road.
