Palisades Fire continues in Los Angeles County

As of January 16, 2025, the Palisades Fire continues to burn in Los Angeles County, with 19% containment reached as of January 15, 2025. The fire has burned an estimated 5,000 buildings, including over 400 houses, and has killed at least nine people.

Current Status: The fire occupies 23,713 acres and is 19% controlled. The Santa Ana winds have lessened, but the RED FLAG WARNING remains in place until 6:00 PM on January 15, 2025. Firefighters are attempting to enhance containment lines and ensure for operational and crew safety.

Evacuations and Curfew: Mandatory evacuation orders and advisories are in force for various zones. A curfew is implemented from 6 PM to 6 AM for all evacuation order and warning zones.

hunt and Recovery: Search operations for missing individuals continue, and officials are organizing teams to hunt for remains around the fire zone. As of January 12, 2025, the death toll was verified at 24 persons, with 24 missing person cases still under investigation.

Resources and Support: Over 2,000 California National Guard men are assisting in firefighting activities. The Getty Center and Getty Villa have been shuttered owing to the fire, however both have adopted considerable fire prevention measures.

Cause Investigation: The cause of the fire is under investigation, with attention focused on a popular hiking area where another fire had happened six days previously.
