Four police officers injured in disorder at Coventry City vs Derby County match
Four officers were hurt in violence that broke out during the Coventry City vs. Derby County football game, and
police are looking into the incident.
It took place at the Coventry Building Society Arena yesterday, Saturday.
According to police, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a brawl broke out between opposing fans in the stands, which
authorities broke up.
Officers broke up the throng as more chaos broke out outside the stadium.
Three other policemen had minor injuries, and one police officer was hospitalised for treatment after suffering a
dislocated shoulder.
A 23 year old man was arrested and remains in police custody.
Due in Coventry Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday), Brandon Mall, of Dartmouth Road, Coventry, has been
charged with affray.
“Even though the majority of football fans go to games to watch the action, it is completely unacceptable that officers
are hurt during violence like that which occurred yesterday,” stated Assistant Chief Constable Jayne Meir.
“A full investigation is under way in partnership with the club and those found to have taken part in the disorder face
prosecution and a lifetime ban from matches.”
