Exclusive: Portsmouth agree Thomas Waddingham deal – medical tomorrow

Portsmouth have won the race to sign Australian striker Thomas Waddingham from Brisbane Roar after agreeing the terms of a deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old is due in the UK this week to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of sealing his move to Fratton Park.

Portsmouth have now won the race to bring the striker to England in the January transfer window.

Waddingham has netted four goals in 11 appearances this season for a struggling Brisbane side this season.

His goalscoring form has continued after netting seven goals in 23 appearances last season – the youngster’s breakout campaign.

Waddingham’s contract with Brisbane Roar was set to run until June 2026.

Portsmouth beat off Sheffield Wednesday and QPR interest to land Waddingham

He made his debut for Australia’s Under-23 side in April 2024 having previously scored two goals for the Under-20 side.

Portsmouth sit inside the relegation zone in the Championship after losing 3-0 away at Blackburn on Wednesday (15 January).

Pompey are one point adrift of safety with one game in hand on 21st-place Cardiff City.

The south coast club have already added Isaac Hayden and Rob Atkinson to their squad in loan deals this month.

John Mousinho’s side are next in action against Middlesbrough on Saturday (18 January).
