Derek McInnes expresses Celtic shock and states what is ‘unusual’ about Brendan Rodgers’ side
Rangers defeated Aberdeen 3-0 at Ibrox on Wednesday night, bringing the deficit to 13 points. There is nothing to worry about for folks in Parkhead.
With Celtic already holding the League Cup, Rodgers is poised to win another treble in Glasgow, following his previous success.
However, Derek McInnes’ Kilmarnock stand in their way for the time being, as the two teams will face off on Saturday evening in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
McInnes observed Celtic’s goal-fest at Dens Park and expressed surprise at what he witnessed.
Celtic were rather good defensively before the New Year, conceding only four goals in the league.
However, the Ibrox horror show set off a chain reaction of poor performances, particularly on the road.
McInness revealed during his pre-match press conference that Celtic’s defensive performance against Dundee was out of character and ‘strange’.
“I thought uncharacteristically, Celtic didn’t have the same confidence with their defensive work, which is unusual for them because normally they have been pretty solid,” according to McInnes.
“It was a hell of a game (versus Dundee).” A fantastic game, and I believe Dundee deserves a lot of credit for it. To attempt to breach Celtic’s defence three times. I think they responded wonderfully. I believed they used their aggressiveness in the set-plays, especially on the third goal.
“Clubs like us. We have to do everything we can to disrupt that momentum. Be sturdy and confident enough to play within our parameters. When you play at Celtic Park, the game can be different at times. We’ve seen proof here (Rugby Park). We defeated Celtic twice last year. We did a lot of things correctly, generated so many opportunities, and probably
Kasper Schmeichel, who took over for Joe Hart in the summer, has had an impressive start to his Celtic career.
However, in recent weeks, he will have been frustrated by the performances in front of him because these defensive flaws cannot be carried over into Europe.
Despite this, Celtic continue to look good defensively, and it is only the high standard that has resulted in recent criticism.
Perez told La Prensa, “I have heard the rumour, but the reality is that no one from the club has told me anything about this player, so I cannot give my opinion beyond him.”
“I know him, I know how he plays, I know his virtues, but really, and the truth to this day, I am not deceiving you, is that no one has made any comment to me about him.”
Olympiacos, a Greek club, is also interested in Palma and has reportedly approached Celtic about a potential transfer.
According to a 67 Hail Hail exclusive, Atlanta United and Orlando City are considering the Celtic winger for their MLS rosters.
Whatever happens over the next few weeks, it appears like Palma’s time at Celtic is coming to an end, and the Honduran may be leaving the club.
