DERBY, Conn. (WTNH)— A residential fire on Minerva Street in Derby drew crews from multiple fire departments Wednesday night, displacing seven residents and injuring one firefighter.

The blaze broke out in a single-family home, prompting a robust response from Derby firefighters, with additional support from neighboring departments in Ansonia and Shelton. The coordinated efforts successfully extinguished the flames, but the damage left the occupants without a place to stay.

The American Red Cross stepped in to provide aid to the displaced residents. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported among the residents, though one firefighter sustained a minor injury during the response, according to the Derby Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under active investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office. Further details about the extent of the damage or possible causes have not yet been disclosed.

Residents in the area praised the swift response from the firefighters, which likely prevented the fire from spreading to nearby properties.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and having emergency plans in place. Authorities encourage anyone in need of assistance following such emergencies to contact the Red Cross or local relief agencies.
