Football League World’s Sheffield United fan analyst has agreed that paying up to £13 million for Leicester City’s Tom Cannon would be a poor decision for any Championship club.
The former Stoke City loanee has sparked intense interest this window, with journalist Alan Nixon initially revealing the Blades and Sunderland’s interest.

Initially, it was expected that the promotion-chasing clubs would make loan-to-buy offers for Cannon, but the situation has changed dramatically since his recall by Leicester, with Nixon reporting that both clubs have made initial offers of £10 million, with the possibility of increasing to £13 million.
Leicester signed him for a reputed £7.5 million in the summer of 2023; the Foxes hierarchy will be thrilled to see such a high return on their investment and will almost certainly accept these bids.
This would leave the ultimatum to Cannon, and considering both teams’ excellent league rankings, it will not be an easy option.
Sheffield United fan commentator is unsure about probable Tom Cannon fee.
To obtain a Bramall Lane perspective on the potential sum they could pay for Cannon, Football League World spoke with their fan pundit, Jimmy from the Blades Ramble podcast, who revealed he wouldn’t want his club to pay too much for the 22-year-old.
“Tom Cannon would be a great signing at around £7 million, and we’ve been looking at a loan with an obligation to buy if promoted,” Jimmy told the BBC.
“I believe £7 million is a fair price, given what Leicester paid for him from Everton.
“However, there are reports that Sunderland will make a big bid. Whether this is true or not, I would not be paying much more than we had agreed upon.
“Maybe £9 million is the absolute maximum, but even then, we are overpaying.
“Having said that, I believe he improves our front line, which is why I would like us to sign him if he is available. And, certainly, I would not want to enhance a competitor (Sunderland) at the same time.
“So, I’m a big fan of Tom Cannon, and he was a player we talked about during the preseason.
“I would be all for this deal, but it has to be at the right price.”
Tom Cannon would be an excellent addition for Sheffield United.
While it would be good for Sheffield United to stick to a fair price, if they want to win promotion, they must beat Sunderland to Cannon’s signing.
The Black Cats have already spent money on loan signing Enzo Le Fee, and adding the Foxes striker would transform them into a force to be reckoned with.
For this reason, Wilder must persuade the Bramall Lane leadership to go all out and give personal terms that Cannon simply cannot refuse.
If he signed with the Blades, they would have acquired a top-tier Championship striker capable of leading them to promotion.
