TRANSFER NEWS: Ipswich Town: Kieran McKenna on Middlesbrough bid for George Edmundson.
Kieran McKenna has stated that Middlesbrough are interested in signing Ipswich Town defender George Edmundson, but the two clubs have yet to agree on a deal. According to the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star, the Blues turned down an early bid of £350,000 for the 27-year-old, who is on loan at the Riverside Stadium this season. Edmundson has made 19 Championship appearances for them, scoring in a 2-1 defeat to Watford in October. Michael Carrick’s team is now looking to convert his loan move into a permanent one, but have yet to submit an acceptable offer.
“I don’t think there’s anything to announce, but I believe that there’s interest there,” McKenna told reporters. “I believe there are certain discussions going on that I have not been involved in. He’s having a tremendous season, which is fantastic to watch. Middlesbrough are having another successful season. “I believe there is considerable interest on their side. I’m not sure if a deal can be done.” In other transfer news, Boro striker Emmanuel Latte Lath, who received a late bid from Town on transfer deadline day last summer, is apparently a target for Atlanta United. According to the Northern Echo, the Major League Soccer team has made a bid of more than £18 million.
Carrick has subsequently conceded that he cannot guarantee the 26-year-old’s stay on Teesside. While Ipswich are trying to recruit a striker this month, it’s unclear whether they’re still interested in bringing him to Portman Road.
