Sunderland now seriously interested in signing two strikers in January

According to one journalist, Sunderland has already made a significant acquisition this month with the inclusion of Enzo Le Fee, and the Black Cats are thinking of expanding that with the addition of a young, talented forward.

Regis Le Bris has had a fantastic debut season with the Black Cats, who are strongly in the race for automatic promotion as well as a play-off position. However, even with the stellar season, the Sunderland manager will probably be considering how to make his team better, and in the upcoming weeks, bringing in some new players might be the answer.

Ben Brereton Diaz from Southampton is reportedly a target for the Championship team this month. Since joining the Premier League team, the Chilean international has struggled, and his performance has caused him to drop in the hierarchy. Blackburn Rovers have also entered the competition to re-sign their former star, so the Black Cats are not the only team interested in the forward. Brereton Diaz is rumored to prefer staying at Southampton or going on loan to Sheffield United.

The good news for Sunderland fans is that Tom Cannon of Stoke City is also a striker the team is considering. The Black Cats and Sheffield United are interested in signing the striker, so there’s a potential Cannon, who is now on loan at the Potters from Leicester City, may be called up and then transferred on loan to another team.

Sunderland is quite interested in acquiring a 21-year-old attacker.
Journalist Michael Graham claims that Sunderland is seriously considering forward Matija Frigan, thus the Championship team’s search for a new striker doesn’t end there. After joining from Croatian team HNK Rijeka in July 2023, Frigan has been playing for Belgian team KVC Westerlo. The 21-year-old played more than 30 games and scored 15 goals for Rijeka after graduating from their academy.

He was sent to Belgium because of his performance, and he hasn’t looked back since, scoring goals for KVC Westerlo. Now that Sunderland is looking to bolster its forward line, Frigan is once again on their radar. Prior to relocating to Belgium, Sunderland.

The Black Cats definitely missed out on his signing, and they are now looking at a prospective deal in this transfer window. Frigan, whose contract with Sunderland expires in 2028, would compete with Wilson Isidor, who has grown to be a fan favorite at the Stadium of Light, Ahmed Abdullahi, Nazariy Rusyn, and Eliezer Mayenda. However, if a deal cannot be reached, Le Bris may view Frigan as the player to eventually replace Isidor, who is now on loan from Zenit St Petersburg.
