Nottingham Forest sent Murillo warning as his future plans made crystal clear

Fans of Nottingham Forest have been cautioned to take advantage of Murillo, a central defender who is a player on

the rise. The Brazilian was once again excellent as Forest defeated leaders Liverpool at the City Ground on Tuesday

night, sparking discussion about his future and potential after he was linked to a number of rival teams.

The only team that has given up fewer goals than Forest this season is Arsenal, and they once again played at their

frugal best to keep Liverpool to a 1-1 draw. However, Tim Vickery, a South American football specialist for Sky

Sports, believes that Murillo will eventually leave.

He said: “Murillo has been outstanding this season. Remember, he had only played 25 games for (Brazilian club) Corinthians and then was into the Premier League with Forest.

Since defending is a team effort, you must be able to communicate with your teammates, yet he arrived from Brazil

with little command of the language. He has, in my opinion, exceeded all expectations and is currently vying for a

spot on the Brazil squad.

He has been a huge hit for Forest, and I believe his supporters understand that they won’t be able to keep him

around indefinitely, even if they are able to negotiate a new contract with him. He’s making progress. He is an

extremely talented centre-back.

When Murillo joined the team in August 2023 for a steal of £11 million, he signed a five-year contract; now,

according to Sky, Forest is “in discussions over an extension” that would retain.

He was named as Forest’s player of the season for 2023/24 and has been equally impressive this term playing

alongside summer recruit Nikola Milenkovic at the heart of the Reds defence. Between them, they have conceded

just 20 goals, kept a league-high nine clean sheets, and are one of the best central defensive partnerships in the top-

flight.

The 27-year-old Serb, who is arguably the two partners’ senior partner in terms of years, told the Telegraph: ‘It’s so

important to trust your partner in defence. Our relationship is built on that and knowing how the other will react in

certain situations. We speak a lot away from here, about lots of other things apart from football. We understand each

other and cover each other’s backs. It’s not just Murillo, it’s the back-four and (goalkeeper) Matz [Sels], but I am so

happy with how Murillo.
