Man dies after car hits wall during police pursuit

During a police pursuit in the heart of Sheffield, an 18-year-old guy lost his life when the vehicle he was operating collided with a wall.

According to South Yorkshire Police, the guy, who was operating a black Ford Fiesta, “attempted to flee the scene” on Monday at around 13:00 GMT after reacting to the presence of officers on Hyde Park Walk.

After a brief police chase, the car—which was thought to have been stolen—slammed into a wall on East Bank Road, and the guy was brought to the hospital, where he subsequently passed away from his wounds, according to a force spokesperson.

A mandatory reference to the Independent Office for Police Conduct was made by the force after the collision.

While cops completed their investigation, East Bank Road was closed; however, it has since reopened.

Officers urged anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the scene at the time of the crash, or with information regarding the event, to contact them.

According to the spokesman, they were especially eager to speak with anyone who might have been in the vicinity of City Road, Park Grange Road, Spring Lane, and Northern Avenue during the pursuit.
