Exclusive: Rangers star Rabbi Matondo agrees loan deal.

Rabbi Matondo is ready to leave Rangers after an undisclosed European team agreed to a loan agreement, according to Football Insider. The 24-year-old is also attracting interest from Serie A clubs as well as Championship sides Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday. Rangers has made Matondo available for trade during the mid-season window, which closes on February 3. He is poised to depart Ibrox on an initial loan, with a buyout option worth around £2 million. This season, the Wales international has made only a few appearances for Philippe Clement’s team due to a hamstring injury.

Matondo has made eight appearances in 2024-25, scoring two goals and assisting three. Prior to his injury, he scored all but one of his goals in a 6-0 win over Ross County in August. However, Matondo has struggled for game time since Ianis Hagi’s return to Ibrox. Hagi has improved his relationship with Clement and is now a key player for Glasgow.

The Liverpool native joined Rangers from Schalke in 2022 and signed a four-year deal. He has 67 appearances for the Gers, scoring eight goals and assisting 12 times.

Matondo has usually played left wing with the Rangers, but he can also play right wing. Clement’s team, which has already allowed Robbie Fraser to leave for Kilmarnock on loan this month, is 16 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title battle.
