Exclusive: Jack Butland set for Rangers comeback.
According to Football Insider, Jack Butland has returned to training with Rangers following his injury and is on the verge of a return. The Ibrox custodian hopes to return for either Sunday’s (19 January) Scottish Cup match against Fraserburgh or next week’s (23 January) Europa League match against Manchester United. Butland, 31, has missed the past four Scottish Premiership games due to internal bleeding in his leg. He was released from the hospital on January 1 and missed the Old Firm’s victory over Celtic the next day.
The nine-cap England international will also miss Wednesday’s game against Aberdeen, with Liam Kelly poised to extend his term between the posts for Rangers. Philippe Clement’s team has held one clean sheet during Butland’s current injured absence, conceding five goals and earning eight points out of a possible twelve. In the run-up to his leg injury, the former Stoke City player had been a virtual constant at Ibrox this season. In the 2024-25 season, he made 29 appearances in all competitions and captained the team when James Tavernier was away.
Butland poised to make Rangers return after hospitalisation
Butland has kept 13 clean sheets in those appearances, surrendering 27 goals in league, cup, and European competition. He joined Rangers on a free transfer in July 2023, following stints at Crystal Palace and Manchester United. The shot-stopper, who has made 87 appearances for the Gers, is under contract until May 2027.
In Europe, the Glasgow giants sit eighth in the Europa League standings and are well placed to progress to a knockout round with games against Man United and Union Saint-Gilloise to play.
