Aston Villa are in talks with highly sought-after forward Louie Barry about a new deal, according to Football Insider. Villa returned the 21-year-old from his successful loan with Stockport earlier this month as they consider whether to keep him or loan him out to play at a higher level than League One. Villa want to sign Barry to a new contract before discussing a possible loan transfer for the second half of the season. Multiple Championship and Scottish Premiership clubs, including league leaders Celtic, have expressed an interest in signing the forward on loan.
Barry signed his current contract before moving on loan to Stockport earlier this season, and he could do so again this month after impressing in the third division. He scored 16 goals in 24 games for Stockport in the first half of the season, 15 of which came in League One. Throughout his career, the youthful attacker has consistently scored in the third and fourth divisions.
Aston Villa are planning a new Barry contract ahead of a fresh loan arrangement.
Since signing him in 2020, Villa have loaned him out to Ipswich, Swindon, MK Dons, Salford, and Stockport, and are now carefully considering his future move. Barry, 21, generally played on the left wing for Stockport this season, but also filled in as a centre-forward when necessary. Villa have already strengthened their striker ranks this month by signing Dutch international Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund. Barry, an ex-Barcelona youngster, has made only one professional appearance for the Midlands giants, scoring in an FA Cup match against Liverpool in 2021.
