Everton have done something staggering in the last five years which no other Premier League club can match

Due to their financial difficulties, the Toffees have had to fight several relegation battles.

Everton lost eight points due to their PSR violation last season, and several low-spending transfer windows followed.

Goodison Park’s heyday of lavish expenditure is long gone, and the team occasionally has to function on a shoestring budget.

For instance, Everton only spent £1.2 million during the summer of 2021, with the majority of their business consisting of four free transfers.

Given all of that, it should come as no surprise that Everton sits at the top of the lists for one very startling figure.

Everton have made a profit in the transfer market over the last five years

It has just come to light, that Everton are the only club in the Premier League to have made a profit in the transfer market over the last five years.

Here is the table in full.

Team Net spend
Arsenal £-469m
Aston Villa £-216m
Bournemouth £-127m
Brentford £-95m
Brighton £-49m
Chelsea £-772m
Crystal Palace £-145m
Everton £27m (profit)
Fulham £-123m
Ipswich Town £-111m
Leicester City £-17m
Liverpool £-252m
Manchester City £-142m
Manchester United £-548m
Newcastle United £-366m
Nottingham Forest £-221m
Southampton £-64m
Tottenham Hotspur £-473m
West Ham United £-276m
Wolves £-31m

Although the club’s financial situation is obviously unaffected, it does demonstrate a lack of investment in the team.

It is therefore not surprise that Everton has had a sharp downturn since Carlo Ancelotti left in 2021.

Given their lofty goals for the Toffees, the Friedkin Group’s entry is likely to cause that number to shift.

Everton will have to be stringent this month

Although the long-term goal is to return Everton to the European race, which will need significant squad investment, there are still short-term financial constraints.

Everton is anticipated to sell to buy this month in order to sign their chosen targets because they are still in the woods in terms of PSR.

To raise money, Dominic Calvert-Lewin might be moved to West Ham, and Beto will probably ask for a hefty price if he decides to return to Serie A.

Players will surely be offloaded over the coming several weeks as Everton is rumored to be interested in signing Ernest Nuamah.
