Blackburn manager John Eustace has said that the club is interested in signing a “special” Leeds United player.
Given that the Whites currently lead the Championship table, it is not surprising that they have yet to make any transfers this month. However, this does not imply that the club or Daniel Farke are not hunting for players, since stories of potential targets continue to emerge.
According to recent reports, Leeds are aiming to recruit a new custodian in current transfer window, citing Illan Meslier’s mistakes throughout the season, despite Farke’s public support for him. In addition to hunting for a new custodian, Leeds scouts watched Bali Mumba play for Plymouth Argyle this weekend.
Farke is familiar with the defender, having given him his Premier League debut at Norwich City, and given the German’s desire to improve his full-back options, they might be reunited. Aside from prospective arrivals, Leeds are expected to lose a player as Joe Gelhardt is close to joining Hull City. The attacker will join the Tigers on a six-month loan agreement as he looks for more football.
Eustace admits January transfer interest in Leeds players.
Gelhardt may not be the only Leeds player to go, as Blackburn Rovers manager Eustace indicated to The Lancashire Telegraph that Patrick Bamford is among the club’s prospective targets this month.
Bamford, branded “special” by previous Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, has been at Elland Road for seven seasons, having joined from Middlesbrough in 2018.
The forward has been a crucial player for the club, but new reports indicate that his time at Leeds may be coming to an end, despite being under contract until 2026.
It was suggested in December that the Whites could let the £70,000-a-week player depart this month, and it now appears that Blackburn is one of the clubs interested in his talents.
Eustace has indicated that he believes Bamford is a terrific talent and has admitted that he is on their list of players to check into: “Patrick is a very good player. I remember playing with him at Derby when he was first starting out.
“He’s a consistent performer at this level, and he plays for a major club in Leeds. But there will be a lot of names given at me, and I will just say they are good players. You would have to ask the club. He’s one of many players we’ve considered, and we’ll see.”
