Arne Engels came up to convert the spot-kick in the 93rd minute, keeping his perfect record from 12 yards this season and breaking Dundee hearts after they had fought back twice before going ahead 3-2 with only 12 minutes of normal time remaining. Luke McCowan opened the scoring for Celtic with a powerful header that seemed to come naturally to the former Dark Blues player. It appeared to be another straightforward win from there, with Celtic dominating but unable to capitalise on its opportunities. That profilgacy came back to haunt Brendan Rodgers’ side just before halftime, as Dundee launched a quick counter-attack following a missed Celtic corner, with Oluwaseun Adewumi finishing a sweeping move with a beautiful strike past Kasper Schmeichel.
Yang Hyun-Jun put Celtic ahead after the break, but Cameron Carter-Vickers diverted a goal past Schmeichel 60 seconds later to square the score. That galvanised Dundee on and off the pitch, and on 78 minutes, that roof was blown away when Aaron Donnelly rose highest to nod home a corner and give Dundee a well-deserved lead, becoming the second man to score against his former club in the match. But a Mohamed Sylla handball in the box handed Celtic a chance to grab a late point, and Engels made no mistake with a superb penalty.
Celtic remains well ahead of Rangers at the top of the table with a lead of 16 points, despite dropping two here. Dundee is seventh.
